How to update budgets in bulk

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

Often, you want to update multiple budgets at once; typically, this is to adjust the targets for the upcoming month, but you can update pretty much any Budget setting via this export/import process.

Essentially, you export the data, update the fields, and then import it - the data will sync to the newly ingested data within seconds.

How to do it in the app

1. Navigate to Budgets

2. Use the filters to show only the budgets you want to edit (you don't have to do this, but it decreases the chances of updating other budgets in error)

3. Click the download icon

4. A model will open. Leave the date field blank, so it downloads the data as of right now.

5. This will download a CSV with lots of columns - see instructions below on updating the sheet for various situations;

  • Edit the current budget amount - update the column called 'Budget Target'

  • Edit a future budget amount - update the column called Schedule Budget Target'

  • Create a future scheduled budget (only works if one does not yet exist):

    • Schedule Repeat Start - this should be the day of the month your budget is to commence (eg 15 for the 15th of the month)

    • Schedule From (the start date for your new custom budget - needs to line up with the Schedule Repeat Start above, for example, 15/04/2024)

    • Schedule To - the end date for your custom budget (e.g. 14/05/2024)

    • Schedule Repeat Length - if you want to create a monthly budget, enter 1 here. If you wanted to create a 2 monthly budget, enter 2 here.

    • Schedule Budget Target (being the amount of money you want to spend per day/week/month)

    • Budget Period - Daily/Weekly/Monthly

  • Create a future custom budget (only works if one does not yet exist):

    • Schedule Budget Targe": (being the amount of money you want to spend)

    • Schedule From: (the start date for your new custom budget)

    • Schedule To: (the end date for your new custom budget)

6. Click the upload icon, and a modal will display asking for you to select the file and the date format.

  • The default is YYYY-MM-DD, but some applications will alter this depending on your region. Just make sure it's the same format as columns Start Date and End Date

7. Once imported, all the fields will update. It's that simple! If you experience any errors, you can send us the file and we will happily review and advise how to fix it.

You can use this method to update almost every budget setting, for example, changing AutoPacing thresholds, KPI type, or Rollover Strategy
