Overview
Spikes and Drops are performance alerts. You choose a metric and set when it should trigger a notification.
There are two approaches:
Compare periods: the percentage change compared to previous time periods.
Example: CTR over the last 7 days has increased by more than 30% compared to the prior 14 days.
Fixed threshold: enter an actual number, and trigger if the metric goes above or below it.
Example: CTR over the last 7 days is less than 5%. Optionally, set a minimum before the alert runs, such as impressions greater than 1,000.
You can monitor metrics in three groups:
Engagement: such as Click-through rate, Clicks, and Impressions
Cost: such as Cost, Cost per click, Cost per conversion, and Cost of sales
Conversion: such as Conversions, Conversion rate, and Conversion value
How to create a Spikes and Drops alert
Go to the Alerts page <insert Link>.
Select Create an Alert.
Under Performance Alerts, select Spikes and Drops.
The wizard has three steps:
Step 1: Setup
Name the alert, then choose how it works:
Metric: pick the metric to monitor.
Measured over: the period the metric is measured across, such as 7 days.
Compare periods: choose whether the metric has increased, decreased, or moved in either direction by more than an amount compared to the prior periods. The amount can be a percentage (%) or a number of standard deviations (σ).
Fixed threshold: fire when the metric is greater than or less than a value, such as CTR greater than 5%, measured over a period such as 7 days.
Advanced noise filter: only fire the alert when there is enough volume. For example, don't evaluate CTR if Clicks is under 100.
Step 2: Scope
Choose which ad accounts the alert watches. Start with all ad accounts, or narrow by tag or specific accounts.
Campaigns are optional. If you leave them blank, the alert runs at the ad-account level. If you add a filter, it runs at the campaign level. Select Preview to see what the alert will cover.
Step 3: Notifications
Choose a severity for the alert: Critical or Important. The severity decides which category the alert appears in on the Alerts page, and who is notified. Select Save alert.
How to view triggered alerts
When a Spikes and Drops alert is triggered, it appears on the Alerts page. Use the Category filter and choose Spikes and Drops to see only these alerts. You are notified by severity, by email or to a messaging platform.
